Frequently Asked Questions:
When should I present my Drug
Test Results to a prospective employer?
- If you are NOT going to be interviewed, such as
applying for a job at a fast food chain or a retail
outlet, then simply attach it to the job application and
on the job application itself put in
BIG BOLD WORDS: "Drug Test Results
Attached" since your
GOAL here is... To
Stand Out From the Dozens of Other Applications that will
be in the pile the next time a position opens.
- If you are going to be interviewed immediately, such
as at a Job Fair, hand it to the interviewer as soon as
you sit down but after you have given him your job
application since your
GOAL here is... To
Stand Out From the Dozens of Other People that the
interviewer will talk to that day.
- If you are going to be interviewed at a later time,
then wait until you get a feel for how the interview
goes.
- If it doesn't seem to be going well, then hand it
to the interviewer at the end of the interview and
say, "I am not sure that this interview went as well
as I would have liked but I am interested in the
position and would make a good employee. As proof of
my reliability I want to give you my personal Drug
Test Results so that you can be assured of me on that
score." Your GOAL
here is... To Keep the Interviewer from Tossing
your application/resume in the
"REJECT" pile.
- If the interview seems to be going well, then hold
off on giving the interviewer the Drug Test Results
until you send him a follow-up letter. There are lots
of places on the web that you can find what to say in
a follow-up letter but basically you want to remind
him of what went well in the interview, what strengths
you would bring to the position, and "To ease your
mind about my reliability as an employee I have
enclosed my personal Drug Test Results with this
letter." Your GOAL
here is... To Encourage the Interviewer to Move
your application/resume to the TOP of the
"CONSIDER" pile.
I have a job, but would this work
for my teenager?
Absolutely! The goal here is for your teenager to be seen
as more reliable than all of the other teens and
20-somethings who might apply for the job. Any employer who
would consider a teenager to be suitable for a job would
certainly want to know that your kid is trustworthy! A
Personal Drug Test is a definite advantage for a military
"brat" or any kid whose family is new to a town and may not
have a network of people who can help them get a job.
Does this really help me get a
job?
It cannot hurt! Employers want reliable employees and
they may have their own drug testing in place to create a
drug free workplace. While you consider it to be a "Job
Search" they consider it to be an "Employee Search" and it
costs money for them to choose poorly. When applying for a
job with a company your goal is to avoid being rejected too
early in their Employee Search process. Even if your resume
isn't as strong as other applicants on Education,
Experience, or Skills... for you to show up with your own
Drug Test Results at the interview proves to them that you
are in agreement with the need to be drug free. And that
might just be the extra edge you need to get additional
consideration for the job.
Is the hair test how the
military tests for drug use?
No, the military services (and indeed most employers) use
a Urinalysis screening process. However that is only good
for 30 days for most drugs and less for others... which is
why the military constantly tests its service members. We
recommend the Hair Drug Test because it covers a longer
period of time and your goal is only to show that you are a
reliable employee to anyone reviewing your resume or job
application. Your personal Drug Test Results will probably
not exclude you from having to providing a pre-employment
urinalysis sample to a company that wants to hire you if
they have their own Drug-Free Workplace Program.
